A real historical collectors item. A traditional Charr Tackle case used on Lake Windermere & also used by some Irish trout fishermen on Lough Mask.

A rare mahogany cased Lake Windermere char fishing outfit, the rectangular cabinet with two lift out slatted base trays each fitted to hold a char long-line with seven lightweight metal spinner baits, original lead keel weight, cutty hunk line and brass bell bite detector, case with brass drop latch lock and swing carrying handle, 12" x 10" x 7" overall, circa 1930, sold with an extract from "Buller's Freshwater fishing", showing use of the long lines.

Traditional Windermere Charr Fishing

The traditional method of catching Windermere Charr has remained the same for at least 150 years, and bears testimony to the skill of the old professional charr fishers. This skill has been handed down from father to son...In days gone by, on about 12th of May, twenty-five boats with their complement of 50 anglers would assemble off Waterhead in the North Basin where most of the charr were congregated. This meeting was called The Carnival, and good fishing was expected by all. As an old-time charr fisherman said: 'They'll take a flat-iron in May!' And May is still one of the best fishing months of the season.
