An extremely rare YOUNG'S 3.1/2" diameter spinning reel in its even rarer early Wheatly horse shoe box.
This reel is a very rare collectors piece in original as new condition because it is without a casting /brake lever.
The reel is elegant and simple to cast disengage the pawl via the rear brass knob and the spool spins freely.
There is a rim mounted tension screw which increases tension on the pawl when engaged.
This is as rare as hens teeth especially in its purpose made wheatly box, where recesses in the floor of the box are purposely positioned to accept the bell and pawl button on rear plate.
This reel is based upon the young's 10a-l-c design but no lever.
The case was made by Walter Dingley’s wife.
